NEWTIV Migrate: export your WordPress users, passwords included
Who is it for?
For teams replacing a WordPress site with a web or mobile app who want to keep the existing accounts.
Building a new web or mobile app and want to keep the people who already have an account on your WordPress site? NEWTIV Migrate exports your users and your content to one encrypted file. Password hashes can be included: your app checks the usual password exactly like WordPress does, and nobody has to reset it.
What is exported
- users: username, email, name, registration date, roles and, optionally, the password hash, profile fields and WooCommerce addresses;
- content: posts, pages, products and custom post types, with categories, tags, custom fields and author;
- comments (without IP addresses) and the media library list.
Security first
- the file is always encrypted with the passphrase you choose (Argon2id and XChaCha20-Poly1305);
- the file is streamed to your browser and never stored on the server;
- only administrators can export, and they must type their password again; the last 20 exports are logged;
- no connection to any external service.
Install NEWTIV Migrate
- Download newtiv-migrate-1.0.0.zip above, then in WordPress: Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, and Activate.
- Go to Tools → NEWTIV Migrate.
- Choose what to export, choose a passphrase (or generate one), type your password again and download the file.
- Keep the passphrase somewhere safe, separately from the file: without it the file cannot be opened. For large sites:
wp newtiv-migrate export site.ntvm.
NEWTIV Migrate needs PHP's sodium extension, included since PHP 7.2 and enabled by almost every host.
Frequently asked questions
Can someone use the NEWTIV Migrate file to sign in to my site?
No. A password hash cannot be used to sign in; it can only be used to check a password someone types. And the file itself cannot be read without the passphrase.
I lost the passphrase of my export.
The file cannot be opened. Make a new export.
Does the file include the images?
No. It contains the media library list, not the files themselves.
